The LIFE SOS Pygargus project, which will bring together conservationists, scientists, farmers and public and private entities to save the Montagu’s harrier (Circus pygargus) from extinction in Portugal and western Spain, was presented in Brussels, Belgium, at the Welcome Meeting - LIFE23 projects, which took place on 23 October 2024.
The presentation was given by biologist and president of Palombar, José Pereira, at this event, which aimed to publicise the projects funded under the European Union (EU) LIFE Programme for the Environment and Climate Action and approved that year.

LIFE SOS Pygargus among the five LIFE projects approved in Portugal
LIFE SOS Pygargus is one of five projects in Portugal that received funding from this EU instrument in 2024. With a total budget of almost €11 million, it will be implemented between 2024 and 2030.
This project is coordinated by Palombar and has 17 other partners, 13 of which are Portuguese entities and four are Spanish.
