FIELD DAY – TRAINING SESSION ON CEREALS

FIELD DAY – TRAINING SESSION ON CEREALS

ANPOC – the National Association of Protein, Oilseed and Cereal Producers, the Polytechnic Institute of Beja and the Elvas Centre of INIAV – the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research, together with local partners the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and CCDR Norte – the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission, invite farmers from the region to a highly practical edition of the Technical Training on Cereals, tailored to the realities of the North.

Following the success of eight editions of the Technical Training on Cereals in the Alentejo, and driven by the momentum of the LIFE SOS Pygargus project, we are bringing to Trás-os-Montes a training model designed in close collaboration with research, academia and the sector.

The goal is clear: to train those who produce, directly in the field, on the current cereal crop. We will understand local constraints and the crop’s potential to support decision-making.

The 1st Session marks the start of a series of two cereal training sessions, enabling the monitoring of two key stages in the development of cereal crops: the stem elongation phase now in March and, in June, the grain filling phase.

This Session, specifically, is divided into two parts:

1. The morning session, which will take place at Mirandela Municipal Library and will focus on ecophysiology, phenology and the main components of production, addressing practical and strategic topics such as variety selection, setting the sowing date, crop rotation management, fertilisation strategies and crop yield analysis;

2. The afternoon session, which will take place at Quinta do Valongo and will be dedicated to phenological identification, yield estimation exercises and determining the ideal sowing density.

We look forward to seeing you there so that together we can realise the potential of cereal production in the Trás-os-Montes region!
